To highlight this memorable occasion and to present the strong fusion of SPORT and CULTURE, NIKE proudly invites Hong Kong renowned designer Michael Lau to unveil his famous ï¿½Gardenerï¿½ series with the addition of 3 entirely new Gardener figures. All the 106 Gardener figures will be dressed in NIKE Holiday 2006 outfits and exhibited in the Nike Flagship Store exclusively until 21st of October 2006; NIKE will also launch the first collaboration with Michael Lau and a special sale of the limited edition [GARDENER MEETS NIKE] collectable series which will be held at 01:06 am on 30 September 2006.
Hong Kong NIKE Flagship Store Concept Synchronizes the World
Situated at Des Voeux Road, Central with a total area of 2415 ft, the NIKE Flagship Store follows the global design of all NIKE flagship stores around the world: simple and fresh. To be more customer-friendly, each product category has a specific region for display.
Different from the NIKE SPORT CULTURE Shop in TST, the Flagship Store in Central does not only showcase the SPORT CULTURE sportswear series, but it also set up a special display corner of SPORT PERFORMANCE product series including Basketball, Football, Running and Womenï¿½s fitness.
NIKE SPORT CULTURE
NIKE Sport Culture. A collection of sportswear that seeks to reflect the underlying currents of popular culture, based on the authentic soul of classic sports heritage. By exploring the domains of youth culture, this collection has grown into a personality all its own, plugging directly into the psyche of the young generation.
Michael Lauï¿½s GARDENER series. A collection of figures of die-hard X-Game aficionados, doing what they do best with full zeal. The first batch of 10 GARDENER was introduced in the year of 1998, with the number of characters rapidly grown to 103 to result in the first GARDENER exhibition on 29th September 1999 at the Hong Kong Art Centre. These characters breathe the spirit of the sport, and represent the unconventional, dream-state lifestyle that defines utopia for todayï¿½s youth. GARDENER have travelled as far as England, France and Japan, generating nods of heads the world over.
GARDENER MEETS NIKE = SPORT MEETS CULTURE
What GARDENER represents is the chemical reaction of incorporating SPORT with CULTURE, and this is coherent with the NIKE SPORT CULTURE design concept. For the opening of the Central Flagship Store, NIKE thus wishes to collaborate with a designer who can represent the Hong Kong culture, and the result is in this creative crossover. [GARDENER MEETS NIKE] exhibition no doubt brings to life the concept and spirit of NIKE SPORT CULTURE
[GARDENER MEETS NIKE] is a 3-dimensional presentation of NIKEï¿½s [SPORT MEETS CULTURE] theme. All 106 GARDENERS are dressed in NIKE06 winter outfits, head to toe. The focus is on [HERITAGE RUNNING], from NIKEï¿½s Sport Culture series.
The [HERITAGE RUNNING] series pays tribute to Steve Prefontaine: the cult American runner that has in part defined the spirit of NIKE since the brandï¿½s conception. The series is a re-interpretation of classic running apparel. Design classics – such as the ï¿½Windrunnerï¿½ sports jacket of the 80ï¿½s – are re-thought, re-shaped and re-invented. Worn by GARDENER, it promises to give an exciting new angle of looking at sporting design classics.
The whole project takes more than a year to complete from scratch. The clothes on the GARDENER are produced in great details. From paper draft to fabric and accessories, all materials are provided by the Nike Apparel Design Department, so as to achieve the greatest authenticity with the best and perfect ratio. To work out the correct paper draft for all the figures is already a extremely challenging exercise, not to mention all the 106 pairs of the miniature shoes worn by the GARDENER are hand-crafted by Michael Lau according to the real shoe sample, even the iconic waffle outsole is followed. This work of art has demonstrated well the great artistï¿½s genius craftsmanship and unmatched techniques.
Limited Edition GARDENER MEETS NIKE Collection
To make the event more special, NIKE first time collaborates with Michael Lau and launches the GARDENENR MEETS NIKE limited edition collection. The design is inspired by Skateboarding and GARDENER character, NY FAT. This limited edition will be available for sale at 01:06 am on 30th September, 2006 at NIKE Hong Kong flagship store in Central.
NIKE DUNK LOW PRO SB – $1999
– The shoe box is made of the finest Walnut wood, the pack comes with a 6ï¿½ Walnut wood color NY FAT and a mini skateboard wood tag
– With design concept originated from Skateboarding thus the limited edition Skate:Shoe:Board features a ï¿½WOODï¿½ texture as a key design element.
– On the heel of the shoes, 4 drill holes graphics has laser crafted on to represent the drill holes on a skateboard. Wording of ï¿½gardener meets nike at hong kong flagship 29.09.2006ï¿½ is also laser crafted on to the back
– Image of original NY FAT is printed also on the sockliner
The 3 limited edition T-shirts are also thoughtfully designed by Michael Lau.
The packaging again uses the finest walnut wood as material.. Each T-shirt comes with a mini tee in the same graphic and a mini skateboard wood tag.
RUNNING GARDENER ($499) : Prefontaine, the legendary runner from Oregon, is the latest addition to the family of GARDENER, therefore creating a T-shirt with a theme of GARDENER running in daytime.
RUNNING KRYLON ($499) : Created to symbolize the fleeing of NY FAT after being discovered for spraying Graffiti at night.
GARDENER MEETS NIKE ($569) : With idea also originated from skate board, the wood pattern characterizes the main design concept of the T-shirt.
