DC TEAMS WITH METHAMPHIBIAN TO CREATE A FIRST FOR THE ARTIST PROJECTS™ SERIES – THREE LIMITED EDITION SHOES AND JACKET

PROJECT WILL OFFER MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF THE METHAMPHIBIAN SHOES AS WELL AS FIRST APPAREL PIECE IN THE SERIES

Vista, CA… DC has teamed with famed sneaker artist Methamphibian to create the first shoe and apparel offering for the Artist Projects™ series. The Methamphibian project consists of three versions of custom designed DC shoes along with a matching M65 styled jacket. While one version of the shoe will be available at select skateshops and sneaker boutiques worldwide, the other two versions were created exclusively for In4mation in Hawaii and Brooklyn Projects in Los Angeles. In4mation and Brooklyn Projects will each receive 48 pairs of a customized colorway for limited distribution. The Methamphibian jacket will be available at all retailers that carry the shoes. Sale of the In4mation and Brooklyn Projects models will have an early release date of November 15, 2006, while the worldwide project will deliver December 1, 2006.

In the sneaker world, it is hard to find an artist bigger than Methamphibian. His art form that started as a hobby quickly catapulted Methamphibian to one of the most influential names in customized sneakers. The artist has since pioneered the techniques of hand painting and set the standard for the way custom sneakers are made today.

“Methamphibian’s approach to footwear embellishment is quite compelling as he plays of the simple but highly effective approach to the usage of black and white,” said Damon Way, Executive Vice President of DC. “Couple this with his artistic story like narrative and you have the recipe for something that can only be admired as truly magnificent… a true collectors piece.”

As with every Artist Projects™ shoe, the Methamphibian was custom designed by the artist. It features canvas and suede uppers accented with custom screened four-panel artwork. Methamphibian artwork graces the insole while logos accent the customized shoe sole. The worldwide offering is available in a distinct black and white version. In4Mation will feature a lime/black/white offering, while a black, black denim and red version will be offered exclusively at Brooklyn Projects.

“The basic premise/inspiration of the shoe is based on Southern California mid-80′s Skate and Punk culture,” said Methamphibian. “It was then I really started to take notice of graphics and art when I was young growing up in San Diego. I wanted to pay homage to that era by bringing back something of that essence out of respect. For the jacket, I wanted to design something militaristic and simple with heavy contrast that fits into my aesthetic. It is important to me that everything flows coherently with each other, rather then slapping a bunch of “current flavors” together and making something just for the sake of making it.”

The M65 Jacket shares elements of the Methamphibian shoe. The slimmed down cotton ripstop military styled jacket is embellished with embroidered patches of Methamphibian’s artwork on a custom digital camo print.

Methamphibian continued: “A great thing about this particular DC shoe, similar to many classics of the 80s era, is that the more you wear it the better it looks… no matter how trashed or beaten, in my opinion. This is a shoe that is meant to be thrashed to death and not locked in a box.”

Since 2001, The Artist Projects™ series gives industry artists opportunity to express themselves through the creation special-edition DC shoes. Since the projects’ inception, many notable artists have put their unique spin on various DC shoes, resulting in shoes that can be collected, admired, or simply worn.
