Levi’s Peter Blake Set pay homage to the iconic British pop artist, Sir Peter Blake. Best known for his LP sleeve art for The Beatles‘ ground breaking album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. This limited edition set will include a re-print silkscreen self-portrait series, originally released during the 1960’s. More importantly, Levi’s will re-produce the signature denim he wore in his self portrait, an exact replica of the 1955 edition, as well as the cover all, which pre-dated 1950’s. Each set also comes with an authentic silkscreen poster and an autograph from Sir Peter Blake himself.
The Levi’s Sir Peter Blake set was released this Saturday, March 3rd, in Japan. Limited to 100 set only, at JP¥ 262,500, or around US$ 2230. Items brought to you by Levi’s Japan. Photos by Aki.
Profile – Sir Peter Blake
Born in 1932 Dartford, England. Sir Peter Blake (aka The Father of UK Pop Art), studied at Gravesend School of Art before being accepted by the prestigious Royal Academy of Art in London during the years 1953 to 1956. Subsequently, he returned to teach at Royal Academy of Art from to 1964 to 1976. During this period, he designed the most notable & talked about album cover, Beatles’ 1967 “Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band”. Essentially a collage with The Beatles’ member and icons from the past. The design used vivid color palettes to matched the unique sense of cultural movement during the time. The work brought Sir Peter Blake fame as well. He was recognized as one of the emerging artists in British art scene, along with David Hockney, Alan Joen, Patrick Colfield. Aside from The Beatles, he contributed to numerous other legendary albums such as The Who, Beach Boys, Eric Clapton, Band Aid, Paul Weller, Ian Duley tribute album, etc… In 2002, Sir Peter Blake was knighted with the title Knights Bachelor for his services to the British arts.
