Aside from its art related project – European Creators Series, Levi’s Japan will be launching another product line centered around New York-based artists. The New York Artist Series will be an exclusive denim line, created collaboratively with 3 New Yorkers: Tomokazu Matsuyama (aka Matzu-MTP), KAWS, and Jeff Staple.
The first will be the Matzu-MTP Tab Device edition set. Levi’s used one of his signature artwork, divided into smaller portions. Each portion was then used as the back label on the denim. Due to the unique method the artwork was divided, no 2 back labels are alike, making each denim one of the kind. The rivets and the belt loops were modified into Matzu’s favorite colors of white and navy. Each item will also come with an original Matzu-MTP’s artwork, titled “The Strokes of Sunshine”, specifically created just for this series.
The Matzu-MTP denim will be on sale at Levi’s Japan’s Tab Device boutique in Aoyama district of Tokyo. Priced at JP¥ 21,000 (~US$ 170) and limited to 200 pairs. On sale will also be a special t-shirt for the series. Priced at JP¥ 5,250 (~US$ 42) and limited to 100 pieces. Items provided by Levi’s Japan, photos by AKI.
