PORTER Green Eye Collection

Little known outside of Japan, the Green Eye Collection launched in 2006 to commemorate 70th anniversary of YOSHIDA & CO., the company behind PORTER (a.k.a. HEAD PORTER) brand of bags and apparels. Due to the collection’s popularity, YOSHIDA & CO. is releasing the collection this year, with 3 additional new models – 2 shoulder bags and a waist pack.

Compared to other collections from PORTER, the Green Eye Collection comprised several features which made it distinctive. First, the exterior of the collection is fabricated out of cloth adorned with tiger stripe camouflage, rather than the usual nylon fabric. This alteration is a reminder of YOSHIDA & CO.’s origin as a canvas bag manufacture. Another unique aspect is the hardware. Instead of the familiar YKK zippers or DURFLEX clip buckles. The company went through the trouble and replicated brass zippers by Waldes, a popular zipper manufacture some 70 years ago, along with Permex buttons. Down to even the vintage brass clip lock buckle.

Just to add a touch of modernity, a bright yellow nylon lining overlay the interior with 2 distinguishable labels “70 Anniversary” and “Love & Peace”. The 6 original models, along with the 3 new ones, will be available at YOSHIDA & CO. flagship stores and selected retailers all across Japan.
