John Maeda is world-renowned for his uncanny ability to bridge the jumbled world of art with the logical environment of mathematics. The artist, graphic designer, computer scientists, mathematician, and currently a professor at prestigious MIT Media Lab. Maeda continues to push the boundaries of both art and technology, creating works never thought possible from either realms.
So it was natural for Reebok to approach the celebrated pioneer for a very special collaboration. The result – Reebok Timetanium. Based on Reebok Ventilator, the exterior of Timetanium featured original graphics by Maeda, created not with the assistance of already available design software, but from scratch utilizing Maeda’s original mathematic algorithms and computer codes. The interior lining of the Timetanium reflects the complexity of this process, with the original, hand-written calculations by Maeda, printed on.
