Checked out Penfield‘s booth to see the label’s new offering for Autumn/Winter 2008 season. Several new merchandise, including the familiar train engineer stripes applied on a vest form this time. Interior is lined with woodland and/or Stewart plaid. Other new merchandise include a whole series of outerwears in colorblocks colorways and a new collaboration with the folks of dpm/maharishi, with the introduction of a signature dazzle camouflage.
A bit on dazzle camo. It was utilized during World War I on naval vessels as a method to deter the threats of German U-Boats & surface vessels. The concept behind it was a quite peculiar. Instead of concealing the object, dazzle camo is set to make the object stands out from the surrounding, so much so that the rangefinders (pre-dates the usage of radar) couldn’t aim guns/torpedoes on the target.
