The folks at Burton like a good dose of theatrics and humor now and then. Sometimes, that translates into quirky presentations for new products. For example, hidden behind 2
unassuming metallic doors at Burton’s showroom was one of the most interesting collaboration this year – Burton x Playboy.
The idea came about when Burton design team asked pro-riders Keegan Valaika and Mikkel Bang for ideas on graphics that will be on the 2009 Love Model snowboard, which both athletes ride on. Keegan and Mikkel suggested why not play on the “Love” theme a bit further and put centerfold models on the board. And who better to ask for assistance then the magazine that started it all, Playboy. Intrigued by the concept, Playboy opened its archive to Burton. From there, Keegan, Mikkel and Burton selected 4 centerfolds to be top side of the 2009 Love edition. Along with the board, special binding with a centerfold photo was made as well as a Ronin outerwear. It has a “pearlidescence” red shell (first seen on last year’s Idiom line) with a inner lining of more Playboy centerfolds in collage form.
Come August/September, the board will arrive in a black box, with the Burton
logo + Playboy logo = Heart logographic on it. The same can be found on the board also. And as part of the Coalition Series, the board will only be available at retailers with Coalition account and Burton flagship stores.
