London-based apparel label & designer, maharishi (MHI), in conjunction with PO-ZU, created a very unique footwear perfect for the hot Summer month. The maharishi (MHI) x PO-ZU sandal is made from premium leather sewn together. The back portion, essentially the heel tap, can be “flip-up” to support the heel portion of the foot like a sandal. It can also be “retracted” and the sandal becomes a regular flip-flop. Another distinctive characteristic is the footwear label PO-ZU itself.
The UK-based company’s name derived from the word “pause” in Japanese. Of which the company based its ideals of “pause and reflect”. Since its first collection back in Fall of 2006, the label received a wide range of attention for its environmentally and sustainability focus business structure and products. All of its footwear are made in its 2 factories: 1 in India, the other in Portugal. Both conform and even go beyond the rules set by Ethical Trading Initiative Code of Practice in its treatment of its employees. Wages are above local standards. Free health care and education are provided to the workers and members of their families. PO-ZU’s footwear are all constructed from 100% organic materials such as hemp. The leather portions are tanned with vegetable-based dyes. Even its shoe box is made of 100% biodegradable coconut fiber. With the raising awareness in current environmental issues. The maharishi (MHI) x PO-ZU sandal definitely arrived at the right moment. via: FL
