Marking its first year in the industry, New York-based http://publicschoolnyc.com/” target=”_blank”>Public School contune to make giant strides in the world of men’s fashion. The label is now carried by some of the top boutiques across 3 continents, including Barneys New York, Harvey Nichols in London, and soon, Height in Tokyo. In spite of all the accolades, designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne have already completed the label’s Spring 2009 collection. And once again, both have successfully integrated a multitude of themes into one cohesive design. As Chow stated, the general forms of Public School Spring 2009 harked back to military uniforms, such as the iconic M-65 and A-2 jackets. However, only slight similarities would be notice on the end products since both designers deconstructed and reconstructed each, in the process adding subtle modernity. One such is the focus on the center front placket, where wearer could utilize the zipper and/or buttons enclosures.
Another would be the usage of color. Aside from its trademark black, the designers went on to add a new color – navy. But unlike any plain navy dye, a balanced hue of dark and light give Public School navy colorway a deceiving transformation between black and navy, given the angle of lighting. Of course, the usage of materials is one of the crucial design factor for Public School. While, premium hide and lambskin are the mainstays. The duo experimented new formulas into the fabrication process, such “worsted” leather, where the hide is washed twice, resulting in a leather jacket that looks and feel much like a cotton one. All items will land at selected retailer the 1st quarter of next year.
