A few within the high fashion industry wondered what would Raf Simons bring to the iconic label Jil Sander when he was named its creative director a few years back. After all, Simons’ forte, the minimalist silhouettes and monochrome colors, were pioneered by Jil Sander herself. Those quandaries quickly dissipated after Simons showcased his debut collections. Even working with a minimalist design focus, Simons was able to augment his own styles. Aside from his own collaboration with EASTPAK, a prime example of Simons’ infusion of themes and styles is this season’s sneaker collection for Jil Sander. Unlike what other designers have tried, Jil Sander’s sneakers are complete reflections of the current athletic footwears. Constructed out of 100% leather, each reflects Raf Simons/Jil Sander designs, forms are kept to a minimum and so are the colorways. The new collection of Jil Sander, by Raf Simons, is currently available at Jil Sander boutiques and exclusive retailers such as oki-ni.
