With generous backing from Taipei County Government and Bank of Panhsin, last weekend marked the launch of LIGHT.SCAPE – an unique public art project by the UK-based creative group, United Visual Artists (UVA). Working in conjunction with EN AVANT Creative, part of the Freshness Collective, and Dan H., co-founder of this creative studio and Freshness Mag, the exhibition features the centerpiece titled Volume, which addressed a fundamental curiosity inherited within all human nature – the interest in light itself.
After a year of planning, along with the unenvia:ble tasks of customized central programming software, motion sensors, and assembling thousands of LED panels. The folks at UVA also had to deal with high humidity of the tropical climate in Taiwan, where the exhibition is taking place. The result: 46 columns made of LED panels that create a surreal environment and transform light from a distant, intangible element into an organic form. Exhibition goers are encouraged to interact among the columns, where their motions are pick-up by sensors all around and instantly translate in digital outputs, express in lights and music.
Located at the public square at new Taipei County Hall in Banciao, Volume by United Visual Artists (UVA) will be open to the general public until Thursday, December 4th
