While sport myths akin Rene LACOSTE’s nickname “The Crocodile” to his prowess on the tennis court, the true origin came about quite haphazardly when LACOSTE was on the French Davis Cup Team.  Prior to an important match, LACOSTE made a wager with his team captain that if he should win the game, the captain would have to purchase a particular crocodile skin suitcase.  American press at the time picked up on the French men’s wager and the iconic crocodile was forever linked with LACOSTE.

Besides the introduction of La Chemise LACOSTE, the polo shirt which revolutionize athletic wear, the tennis legend had a hand in creating one of the first specialize footwear for the game.  Dubbed Rene LACOSTE, the sneaker (seen above) carries most of the attributes found on the originals some 75 years ago.  An outwardly marked outsole for surface grip and a rubber sole for cushion. In addition, an upper in herringbone patterned canvas to provide lightweight performance and enhance resilience during game play.  The LACOSTE Rene LACOSTE Sneaker is currently available at selected LACOSTE retailers, including FLAUGE of ZOZOTOWN shopping network.
