Fresh off the Edinburgh International Festival, avant-garde performance troupe Wooster Group will begin its Sci-Fi opera, La Didone, at Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse next week.  Based on Francesco Cavalli’s 1641 opera of same name and in reference to Vigil’s epic poem AeneasLa Didone tells the story of the Trojan prince Aeneas shipwrecked on the coast of Carthage and his subsequent romance with its queen, Dido.  A classic opera in every way till you juxtaposed it with Mario Bava’s 1965 cult Sci-Fi thriller, Planet of the Vampires.  Intertwined with Cavalli’s original plot, characters in metallic suits, exposed mechanical backdrop, and synthesis futuristic sounds all make it a challenging yet fascinating performance piece.  The Wooster Group’s La Didone will open on March 17th to April 26th, at St. Ann’s Warehouse.
