
By maneuvering through their particular positions among the world of fashion the last 10 years. Harajuku-base labels that evolved through the heady environment of this trend-oriented neighborhood of Tokyo have now garnered much attention from both domestic and oversea consumers. Some have even become global player, like the label SOPHNET.
Fueled by his affection for creativity, Hirofumi Kiyonaga, founder and creative director of the label, simply stated once that “SOPHNET. is about clothing”, when asked about its design theme and focus. It was a very vague generalization at first.
However, over time, that sentiment begins to ring true. That to the community of designers from Harajuku, it is less about trends, but more about the expression of individuality and inspirations. It just happens that clothing, instead of canvas, is their medium.
The following is our exclusive exchange with Kiyonaga, from the establishment of SOPHNET. to the present day. In addition, a few unique aspects he hadn’t spoke of before.
