Remember the good old days when the dismissal bell signaling the long awaited recess prepped us for the simple joys of play and rest? Seems almost like a fond distant memory doesn’t it? Recess, a new cultural event paradigm based in New York City aims to bring back the idea of play, sportsmanship and sense of community as an alternative lifestyle for the city.
For this summer, Recess is gearing up for the heat with Tretorn, PUMA and Governor’s Island to present us with The Lawn Series – 3 days of outdoor fun, games, food, activities and simple bonding. Three different sports are held on each day: Badminton on June 20th with Tretorn; Table Tennis on August 22nd with PUMA; and Bocce on September 26th with Tretorn. All events are held at Colonel’s Row on Governor’s Island. The Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and Le Gamin mobile food truck will be on-site to provide participants with refreshments. Meanwhile, Kronan and BioMega will also be on-site to offer attendees test rides of their bikes.
Interested participants can register for competitions on the day of the event. To get to The Lawn Series, Free Governor’s Island Ferry departs from the Battery Park Maritime Building at 10am, 11am and every half hour after until 5pm. For details, please visit Recess online.
