If we didn’t know better, we’d think Raf Simons and Fred Perry himself were fast friends the way Simons had been working on collections with Fred Perry even when his own presentation is coming up at the end of the month. For Fall/Winter 2009, Simons continue to base his work reworking the thirty-leaf laurel from 1960s into new items that are characteristically Raf Simons.
The Autumn/Winter 2009 lookbook is dark and mysterious and a little minimal goth– all iconic of Raf Simons’ design sensibility. The black and white grainy shots feature a new interpretation of the laurel as the embroidered laurel is enlarged, gets a metallic rusting treatment, and is moved to the center of the polo shirt. This polo shirt’s use of metal rusting is inspired by American minimalist artist, Carl Andre. For those who can’t wait for the AW09 collection, there are some great items from the Fred Perry Centenary Collection by Raf Simons, so check those out to tide over to AW09.
