Martin Margiela – Fall/Winter 2009 Sneakers

By - August 20th, 2009

For the past few seasons, Martin Margiela had been releasing solid collections of footwear, especially his sneakers which are extremely well-received. This season we see a strong line-up of motorcycle boots inspired hi-top sneakers other than the usual hi-top silhouette and the low-top model. The hi-top sneakers are kept clean in a monotone with padded leather upper that are strapped to the shoe body in a bondage/rock-and-roll style. Part futuristic and part grunge but 100% cool, the hi-top sneaker boots come in rusty red and olive colorways. Other interesting kicks from this collection include a black pony hair low-top with translucent gum soles a la Where The Wild Things Are. For those who are still looking for something less avant-garde and more mainstream, Margiela’s standard hi-top is done up in red this season to match the falling leaves.

I went today to the Margiela NYC location and they told me the high motorcycle boots not being made. No one (Barneys etc) ordered them because of the high price point. The cost is $895 and the MSRP would have been $1095. They're having a sample sale on Nov/Dec and they might have some sizes for sale.
