Japan’s WHIZ Limited had just set up their “Barter Town” on the site. Loaded with a countdown to the drop of the Autumn/Winter 2009 collection “Barter Town” and images from the lookbook, the WHIZ experience is a lot more interactive this season.
The Autumn/Winter 2009 collection does live up to the western styling and concept of bartering– a lot of American labor and work gear inspired pieces, mixed in with an edge of urban grunge where utilitarian jackets have hoods lined with leather visors and distressed denim are adorend with chains. Layering is key to this season as scarves are wrapped over knits over check shirts. A lot of details are worked into the collection to tune up a more innovative approach to the American work-wear movement– checkshirts sport a red piping on the waist hem and leather pockets amp up the western vibe of a chambray shirt. Of course, all are topped off with engineered work boots.
While we no longer exchange labor for labor like the good old days of bartering, looking the part and paying homage to trusted physical labor is always appreciated. Just as we were saying, Barter Town will open Aug 29, so stay tuned.
