The past month, Freshness Magazine quietly celebrated our 7th anniversary. We want to take this opportunity to thank our many editors, contributors, and supporters. But most of all, we want to thank our daily readers and occasional visitors for making Freshness Magazine what it is today.
Here is a brief look back at some of memorable stories we published in 2003. More after the jump.
August 15th, 2003 – Blackout 2003
The largest blackout in U.S. history, cities from the Midwest to Manhattan and Freshness was there to experience it. The massive blackout crippled mass transit. So, we were stranded …in Manhattan. But lucky enough our friend Jenny took us in. Thanks Jenny. Here are some pictures Freshness took.
September 6th, 2003 – Nike Laser Technology Sneakers @ Nike Energy Gallery
Just came back from the gallery with these exciting pictures. The technology is most exciting and groundbreaking. The technology is amazing, the use is endless. Can’t wait to get a custom pair made. Who votes for NIKE ID on these!? The rumored price is a bit of a range, $250-$600. The rumored release date is October 2003. We’ll wait and see what develops. Take a look at the pictures. Thanks Kenny for inviting us!!
October 1st, 2003 – control chaos opening reception @ the reed space
Freshness was there for Phunk Studio’s inaugural exhibition, “Control Chaos”, at The Reed Space. We were blown away. Phunk has created a giant mural which cover the whole exhibition wall area. The mural is made up of 12 pieces of custom-designed canvases made from corrugated carton boxes. If you’re in town stop by the Reed Space and check Control Chaos.
October 6th, 2003 – Supreme Dunk Madness
Supreme Dunk High line-up.
November 17th, 2003 – Nike · Escape Part II
Here’s a little more to the Escape sighting we post a few days ago. We saw a little more this time. We found our own little escape and took some photos. So, make sure to go pick up the Escapes and a poster on Tuesday. (Try Niketown) We also escaped to Nom de Guerre for the OJAS tees. // Where do you escape to in NYC? We want to know.
December 15th, 2003 – Nike Geoff McFetridge Vandal Experiment #01
A Freshness Mag and Freshmeat inc. collaboration. A video documenting the different ways of uncovering the hidden graphics with some help from some power tools. Special thanks to Aaron Ruff for helping us with the experiment. Tell us what you think.
December 16th, 2003 – Nike Laser Project part II · 2004
You all remember the Nike Laser Project that was released a little while back. Here’s an exclusive peep at the next two sets.
December 17th, 2003 – Revolution @ 255
The minute I walked in I was blown away. The retrospective on Nike Basketball. It’s almost what comes after “Sole Provider” the book written by Robert “Scoop” Jackson. It might also feel like the collection of research material Scoop used to write the book. The exhibition gets down to every detail, everything is part of the exhibition. There’s Lego bball playsets, a plasma tv showing nike bball ads, sneakers, the original blazers up to the current Zoom Generations. A inspiration board is perhaps one coolest aspects of the exhibition. You’ll see drawings, inspiration images and renderings. Not to be missed!
December 25th, 2003 – White Dunk Exhibition Tokyo
White Dunk Tokyo Edition: 202 pairs will be available by lottery, 10,000 lottery tickets will be distributed starting January 5th at AD21, Harajuku, Tokyo. The dunk is made of high-quality genuine painters canvas. We were told this is the first time painters canvas is used. Since it’s the first time painters canvas is being used a lot of work and craftsmanship was put into developing this edition of the Dunk.
