Art Arfons Green Monster Land Speed Record Car

A car or a jet? We are not too sure but we suppose the wheels attached to this retro-futuristic looking thing would make it a car despite its General Electric J-79 jet engine. Rebuilt from parts of the legendary Green Monster that was built and raced in the sixties, this rebuild has a chart-topping 17,500 horsepower with a 15,000 pound thrust, letting the whip top out at 650 mph in 1978. While it currently resides in the parking lot of The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, the car’s attempt for sale on ebay did not fare as well as it did for the land speed record–it failed to reach its reserve at $51,100 even though it would theoretically smoke a Bugatti Veyron in a race. via: autoblog
