Previously previewed with some wise words from Shepard Fairey himself is the Fall/Winter 2009 collaboration between Obey and Levi’s. To be frightfully honest, the teaser images were not enough to satisfy curiosity, and here we have a closer look at the collection to quell your appetite.
The collection extends upon the concept of lived-in, worn and comfortably aged, that carries through all eight meticulously curated and crafted pieces of the collection. Each piece is hand-customized with highly attentive details such as spray paint drips, stencil art imageries, pins, and “wear and repair” touches for a unique vintage look. The collection is meant to continue to age and bond with the owner with wear and are stamped with exclusive branding details such as the Levi’s Red Tab and the Obey Giant tab device.
Consisting of artfully distressed denim in a skinny 511 and slim straight 514, to trucker denim jackets, a flannel woven shirt graced with bleach and custom patches, and a series of super soft washed tees, the collection is highly wearable, detailed yet unpretencious. Other than the tees, all items in the collection come with a special co-branded bandanna.
Also, to celebrate the launch of this collaboration on Oct 29, Shepard Fairey will unveil four poster designs at a live art installation that will be hosted outside the Levi’s store in Times Square. The posters will be gifted with purchase at the store and if you collect all, you will also find a fifth bonus image by flipping the pieces over and combining them together. Save the date, get some clothes and art all at the same spot at the end of this month. Killing two birds with one stone? This is totally better than that.
