MOCA Los Angeles celebrates its 30th birthday this year and will be showcasing its entire collection for the first time ever in two parts. Over last weekend, the museum jump started its Collection: MOCA’s First Thirty Years Exhibition with an extremely star-studded 30th Anniversary Gala. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were both present to witness Mark Rothko painting on a private tour; Pharrell Williams and Takashi Murakami were looking chummy on the red carpet. The highlight of the day? Lady Gaga’s performance of “Speechless” on a Damien Hirst decorated grand piano, donning a hat by Frank Gehry (man behind the swirling metal greatness that is the Walt Disney Concert Hall just couple blocks away from MOCA), and costume created by video artist Francesco Vezzoli and Miuccia Prada. The performance was meant to be a part of a performance art designed by Vezzoli named “Ballet Russes Italian Style (The Shortest Musical You Will Never See Again)”. The Damien Hirst grand piano adorned with butterflies was later auctioned off for $450,000. Check out the pictures from Billionaire Boys Club Blog of the festivities that went on last week over in the City of Angels.
