“Dress up or dress down?”, is the eternal sartorial question. The purveyor of classic American casual cool, Converse, has perfected the formula to this dilemma for its upcoming Spring/Summer 2010 Collection for its Japanese counterpart, Converse Japan, with a simple equation – [Dress Up + Dress Down] 1/2 = Dress code 1/2 – which is incidentally the seasonal theme for the label. So far, two styles have been unveiled for the upcoming season and both are based on the Jack Purcell model. One of them is the Jack Purcell S MDLN which carries a formula of [Medallion Shoes + Jack Purcell] 1/2. The low-top number dresses up in shiny patent brogue details with thinner white soles, and then dresses down in a sporty color combo of white upper and yellow lining. Meanwhile, the Jack Purcell S Plain is a remix of plain leather dress shoes and the iconic Jack Purcell low-top sneaker. The hybrid is a mix of smooth leather upper with matching mesh lining sitting atop a thinner all-white sole. Due to drop next month in mid January, the collection looks promising and offers something new for Converse fans who had grown up and are looking for something that bridges between then and now.
