The Moon was never this close! Announcing the newest collaboration from Nike and its Nike 6.0 line-up, with Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin. This unlikely partnership sprung from similar passions of Nike designers and Aldrin himself – the love of innovation and human ingenuity. Aldrin’s love of pushing the limits also resonate with the athletes of Nike 6.0 team. Thus, making him the ideal inspiration behind Rocket Hero Mavrk Mid 2.
In its quest to reduce waste, the new Mavrk Mid 2 was created in a cold-wrap process. Making the sneaker lighter than most extreme sports footwear out in the market. The process also cut back the usage of dangerous solvents as well. An integrated outsole, similar to the Nike Free system, allows wearer unprecedented range of flexibility while a true-to-fit midsole gives it ample shock absorption. Plus, a stitch-less toe box presents it with a streamlined appearance and amplifies graphic components of the sneaker. Its matte black construct exemplifies space in its vastness, as Aldrin first experienced in 1966 as the pilot of Gemini 12. Adhered to the sides are 2-tone Nike Swoosh as in the dark and light sides of the Moon. Imprinted across the upper is a comprehensive collage of photos taken by Aldrin himself during the first manned mission to the Moon, Apollo 11. Finally, the astronaut personalized the sneakers with his own footprint on the Moon emblazoned on the insole.
The Nike 6.0 x Apollo Astronaut Buzz Aldrin – Rocket Hero Mavrk Mid 2 is set to release at Nike 6.0 retail outlets and online stores on New Year’s Day, January 1st.
