There is no qualms about Converse Chuck Taylor All Star being the choice footwear of rockers and musicians everywhere. The simple canvas silhouette which has stood strong through the years and waves of trends have proven to withstand the test of time. This season, Converse, once again draws inspiration from music and turns to two definitive punk rock bands in the 70s and 80s. The Chuck Taylor All Star Punk Collection pays tribute to two of punk’s quintessential bands, The Clash and Blondie.
As part of the original wave of British punk rock scene, The Clash’s stripped down, eclectic garage sounds stood out against the complicated stadium rock sound that used to dominate the airwaves. To celebrate The Clash and its contribution to the music scene, five different pairs of Chuck Taylor All Star Hi-Top have been reworked with motifs and elements related to the band. One of the stand out pairs is the white hi-top with “London” printed in red across the midsoles. This pair commemorates the 30th anniversary of the band’s album, London Calling. Other colorways include pairs with combat references featuring The Clash’s skulls and cross bones logo, and another olive number kept simple but punctuated with campaign pins.
The other band presented in this collection is America’s very own Blondie. Blondie stood out in the 70s and 80s with their succinct pop songs that combined influences from reggae, rock and hip hop and defined the new wave and punk scene after disco faded out of the picture. Several silhouettes are available in this collection including the Chuck Taylor All Star Light shoes in a fresh all-over zebra print; a modern oxford cut from metallic gold leather mixed with leopard spots; a hi-top in black canvas contrasted with arresting white graphics, pink laces and a large pink “Blondie” printed across the soles and shoe upper.
The Chuck Taylor All Star Punk Collection is due to start dropping in January at Converse retailers, so stay on the look out for a fresh pair of kicks to rock 2010 with.
