Yesterday, Nike held one of its biggest football launches with the help of Real Madrid football prodigy, Cristiano Ronaldo. The launch, named WRITE HISTORY, is set to unveil the latest Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II which builds on its predecessor, the Mercurial Superfly with greater speed and revolutionizes football boots with Nike’s adaptive traction technology.
The Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II is an ultra lightweight boot molded with a Flywire upper which provides maximum support and dynamic fit while minimizing weight, and a unique adaptive traction system designed to fuel an “explosive acceleration”. The traction system is developed through the Nike SENSE where adaptive studs can extend and retract up to 3mm depending on field and ground conditions, and pressure exerted by the player. Aside from retractable studs, the new Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II also comes with directionally positioned blades which allows for quick changes of directions. Meanwhile, secondary toe traction adds toe-off power to the first steps, thus all in all giving players greater speed in all directions and conditions.
The development process started off from an insider insight, where Nike believes that acceleration around a defender is just as crucial as an ability to accelerate in a straight line. The design team worked with some of the best footballers including Cristiano Ronaldo who helped unveil the new cleats today, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexadre Pato.
Aside from technical specs which promises to change the game of football, the new Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II connects the physical playing field to the digital through Nike Football+. Each pair of cleats come with a unique code which can be used to access trade secrets online and give access to Master Speed training program which provides Brazil national team stars Robinho, Fabiano and Nilmar’s training tips and game day preparation. In the program, there are four camps available– A Pelada teaches one to learn the high-speed ways to practice competitive Brazilian football, O Brasilerao gives four authentic drills from Corinthians’ club coaches, Na Gringa showcases the difference between continental games and A Selecao gives an inside look to the squad drills and 3-man exercises from a CBF coach at the Brazil National Team’s training hideaway in the mountains.
Also, another feature, “Inside the Elite” gives wearers access to players and athletes’ games and preparation. Last but not least, the code also enables wearers to gain access to Nike Football+ activities such as training sessions, trial events and player appearances.
The Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II will be available through Nike Store starting April 1, so keep this in mind to get your own game going before the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer galore kicks off (with maximum, adjustable traction, of course).
Release Date: April 1st (Thursday)
