In the early 1990s, a group of like-minded outliers from do-it-yourself subcultures of skateboarding, surfing, punk, hip-hop and graffiti came together at a small New York City storefront gallery and created art based on their lifestyle. The grass-root establishment grew as the artists banded together and honed their craft. These artists started a movement and are considered leaders within the industry today. The story of these outsiders was documented in one of the industry’s most renowned films, Beautiful Losers. Today, the artists from Beautiful Losers come together once again at Paris’ The Lazy Dog Gallery and put their prints together for GRAFIKA: A Collection Of Prints By The Artists of Beautiful Losers. The artists include names we are all familiar with today such as Ryan McGinness, Obey’s Shepard Fairey, Geoff Mcfeteridge, Evan Hecox, Todd James and Ed Templeton.
The exhibition just commenced yesterday and will be running for a little over a week until March 27. Glltn went to the exhibition opening and checked out wonderful prints from the artists of Beautiful Losers. If you can’t make it out to the exhibition in person, enjoy the photo recap and live vicariously through it! via: glltn
