Shephard Fairey’s OBEY is known for its strong opinions and fearless voice of dissent. In a few weeks, Shephard Fairey will be hosting his new solo exhibition, “May Day” featuring a new body of work which explores the multiple meanings of “May Day” at Deitch Projects. In conjunction with the exhibition, OBEY, will be hosting a “May Day ” Pop-Up Shop set to open next Friday at the Reed Space Annex.
The pop-up shop will not only serve as a clothing store, but it will also be a visual narration of Shepard Fairey’s work to date. Some of his signature work which evokes the raw and rustic sense of nostalgia of the OBEY brand such as a hand stenciled military jacket, wood frame silk screens, collections of spray paint cans and some of Fairey’s most iconic images to date will be spanning the walls of the pop-up space.
Aside from a tight and comprehensive exhibition of some of Shephard Fairey’s creations, the pop-up shop will also house exclusive items such as 30 hand-stenciled one-off t-shirts, limited edition Pop-Up t-shirts and commemorative Shepard Fairey “May Day” T-shirt based on one of his pieces from the “May Day” exhibition. Additionally, the store will also carry a carefully curated selection of men’s and women’s OBEY clothing. The Pop-Up store will open on April 30 and run for two weeks until May 16. So be sure to drop by both the exhibition and the pop-up store, and kick off May the right way.
