In view that Future Sole 2010 design competition from Nike and the Jordan Brand has already started registration, and that last year's winning design will be released onto the racks, Sole Collector met up with Dwayne Edwards, the design director of Jordan Brand, to chat about how the competition came about, and the winning design from Austin Jermacans last year.
In this video, Edwards chatted about his own start in the footwear design industry (having won a design competition for Reebok at the tender age of 17, and later becoming a professional designer at the age of 19), and how he wants to offer the same opportunity of reward and feedback to young creative minds and loyal Nike and Jordan Brand consumers out there.
Last year, Austin Jermacans won the Jordan Brand leg of the competition, and his design for the Jordan Melo M6 will be produced in a limited quantity of 2,000 pairs. Edwards also chatted about Carmelo Anthony's response to the winning design (he was excited about the forefoot strap because he has narrow feet) in this interview.
Check out the video, and if you are hoping for a great chance to break into the footwear industry, and feel that you have a lot of ideas but no effective way to convey them, do register for Future Sole 2010 here.
