One of Japan’s most celebrated and popular soccer mangas, “Captain Tsubasa”, has not only been widely read and watched in Japan, but is also one of those with a loyal following around the world. For phase three of Nike Sportswear and SOPH.’s 2010 FIFA World Cup retail venture, “Write The Future”, the store is releasing a pair of collaborative Nike Air Zoom Tiempo featuring art work by Youichi Takahashi– the man behind “Captain Tsubasa”.
The black Nike Air Zoom Tiempo comes with a quilted upper that looks very much like a soccer cleat minus the studs, but with pink and bright yellow accents. The colorway and designs are based on the protagonist of “Captain Tsubasa”, Kojiro Hyuga. The “Tiger” character and motif in the back refers to Hyuga’s moniker in the series, and “78” is his jersey number. The insoles have been customized with Takahashi’s “Captain Tsubasa” art work (And, is that a pair of Nike cleats Hyuga is wearing?).
These cleats will be hitting racks on Jun 5, and we are quite sure, for once, the dwellers of Japan’s Akihabara will be venturing out of the famous “meido kissa” (maid cafe) to buy a pair of sneakers and breathe in the same air as sneakerheads.via: honeyee
