This will not tell you what the upcoming Fall/Winter 2010 collection from Yohji Yamamoto’s collaborative line with adidas, Y-3, looks like. But, it will tell you what the collection feels like, which in a sense, is way more interesting than showing snippets of cropped or blown-up images that probe one to think on a visual level. As we had previewed earlier during the New York Fashion Week, Y-3 departs from the land of FIFA 2010 World Cup and arrives with a dose of wanderlust, with a collection that is slightly dark, slightly brooding, and every bit vagabond. It taps into the urban desire of breaking out of the mold, the confinements of everyday life and the city, and venture into the wild–at least spiritually and sartorially.
Snippets of cityscapes recorded in black and white fuel both a sense of entrapment and desire to see the unfamiliar lands for oneself. Kick back, don’t expect to see any clothes, but enjoy the feeling that comes with the mood film, and behold the collection that shall be dropping quite soon.
