What is it about the Brazilian National Team? What enables this victory-churning machine to produce some many legendary soccer players? More importantly, the ability to win 5 FIFA World Cup titles? Is it a secret additive to their churrasco sauce? A forbidden training regiment which weed out the talentless “permanently”? Some undiscovered black magic originated from the depth of Amazon? A question begged to be answer; Nike Sportswear 21 Mercer Street flagship implemented the Brasil Pitch Black Installation, maybe a probable mock-up of the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF)’s secret facility?
To realize the installation as a whole, artisans worked 3 nights consecutively, from 7 pm (when the store closed) to 4 am. Existing wooden panels removed, decorative ones put in place. Miniature LCD screens, with live score update added. Several spreads of black Astroturf pitches fastened to different area. A signatory Canary and 5 Stars wallpaper was commissioned (5 strars for 5 World Cup titles. Canary for the team’s canary yellow jersey) Even the cash/wrap table was enshroud black spherical quilts. Framed and enshrined, 5 track jackets replica from the 5 FIFA World Cup winning teams. To expand the scale and scope of the project, Nike invited Sao Paulo muralist, SPETO, to add the finishing touches.
