gorillaz on melancholy hill vid 1 570x299 Gorillaz On Melancholy Hill | Video

One of the best things about the world’s greatest animated band Gorillaz is not just that they are represented by a claptrap group of characters that makes absolutely no sense together (but obviously, creates haunting tunes), but that the lyrics when spliced with their hypnotic electro beats, relate bits and pieces of a moment that may not be cohesive in a narrative sense, but manage to capture a single second to near perfection. After years of hiatus, Gorillaz has finally returned to the music scene this year with a new studio album, Plastic Beach. A few days ago, teasers and leaks of the official video to one of the tracks on the album “On Melancholy Hill” had surfaced on the Internet, and yesterday, Gorillaz has released the official video.

Entertaining as of all other Gorillaz videos, the narrative of the video almost has no inkling of connection with the track which croons a rather romantic concept of “you are my medicine when you are close to me”. The visual backdrop to the song is a pirate invasion, which involves a spectacular amount of submarines, planes and crazed fighters. Oh, and a evil Darth Vader-like character which was trying to massage or steal a dead walrus stranded on top of an island. Words probably won’t make any more sense out of the video, so enjoy the video for what it is after the jump!
