The phrase “canvas for art” takes on a new meaning this year, as the heritage purveyor of America’s favorite canvas shoes, Keds, has partnered up with the Whitney Museum to sponsor the Whitney Museum of American Art’s summer session to celebrate artists and musicians featuring the Christian Marclay: Festival (an exhibition featuring daily live performances) and Whitney Live Friday night music series. To commemorate the collaboration of Keds and the indispensable Whitney Museum, the duo has also come together to create a KedsWhitney Collection of high top and low top sneakers designed by American conceptual artist, Jenny Holzer.
Born in 1977, Holzer is best known for her LED light installations which have taken on formidable scales and were projected onto buildings, carrying thought-provking messages for the masses in public places. Aside from LED lights, Holzer has also worked with other medium such as t-shirts, bronze plaques, paintings, footstools, condoms, photogrphas, sound and video projects, amongst many others.
Her collaboration with KedsWhitney Collection features clean, simple white and black sneakers in the classic Champion hi-top and low-top styles, stamped with Holzer’s bite-sized thoughts printed in tonal shades across the sneaker. The collection is set to go on sale this coming July 8, and will be available at Bloomingdales stores nationwide.
