One of contemporary art world’s best selling artist who has successfully traversed between high and commercial art, KAWS, has just affirmed his status as an indispensable figure in the contemporary art market with his first museum solo exhibition at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut. Amongst key pieces old and interesting ones new, is a pair of never seen before toy companions produced in conjunction with Medicom Toy (who also has a hand in KAWS’ clothing label, OriginalFake) and Disney. This pair of KAW-ified toys are none other than the little wooden boy who taught us not to lie, Pinocchio, and his wise sidekick and purveyor of bite-sized conscience, Jiminy Cricket. These are supposed to have been produced in 2010 and is listed as a part of KAWS’ collection. So whether these will eventually be mass-produced for the market or simply be shipped around the world for showcase, we may have to wait to find out. The exhibition will be running till January 2011, so there is still plenty of time to plan a trek out there!
