More illuminating than the seafaring legend of St. Elmo’s Fire, the Toft Brothers have held a beacon for the often neglected sneaker community of Scotland the last 20 years. In the process, their boutique, Hanon Shop, has become an authoritative figure in market trends and sneaker designs. As a commemorative gesture of the brothers’ support, Clarks of England reissued the Ashcott, an original design shelved since 2003 after the physical closure of Padmore & Barnes in Ireland. Took up the name of small Somerset township, the Ashcott extruded straight-forward, functional elements – one-piece leather upper and crepe outsole in natural rubber, all of which made Clarks famous.
In Toft Brothers’ style, the newly re-issue editions still referenced the Ashcott silhouette, with the exception of the materials going into. The former one-piece suede (or leather) upper was now in 2 forms – perforated suede and Tech Tuff. The perforated suede created an additional textural feature to the shoes. The Tech Tuff, specialty woven leather, meanwhile, enhanced its durability. In honored traditional, “Keeps On Buring” flame marking to celebrate Hanon’s 20 th anniversary is added to the leather sockliner, hang tag and heel tab, an inspiration taken from 1960s North England band, the Northern Soul. Both editions come with 3 sets of matching laces and currently available for sale at Hanon-Shop online store and sneakersNstuff of Stockholm.
