The Australia-base lifestyle label Billabong is certainly making a “splash” ahead of the U.S. Open of Surfing competition end of this month. A little bit after a week after it made the tender offer to purchase West 49, a 130+ stores retail chain in Canada which include Off The Wall and D-Tox, Billabong made an offer this weekend to the label RCVA. Founded in 2000 by PM Tenore and surfer Conan Hayes, the California-base company established itself as a skateboard and surfing lifestyle brand. Nevertheless, it is best known for its artist projects, like the just opened exhibition featuring Todd James (REAS) and Barry McGee, and its special collection with model Erin Wasson. More recently, the label is making an inroad to the MMA market, sponsoring fighters BJ Penn, Vitor Belfort, and Fedor Emelianenko.
Specific details and the cost of the deal were not disclosed. But PM Tenore and the existing RCVA management team will remain with the company. In addition to other Billabong’s acquisitions, including Nixon and DaKine, the inclusion of RCVA’s future earning is expected to contribute 2% of Billabong total revenue. via: WWD
