World Basketball Festival Kick Off Event | Event Recap

With this evening’s USA Basketball Showcase to start in matter of minutes, selected press and media were treated to the World Basketball Festival this morning at the historical Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Center. Presented in grand fashion on the vast stage, converted into a full size basketball court for the occasion, upcoming basketball stars – Rajon Rondo (USA), Kevin Durant (USA), Yi Jianlian (China), Carlos Arroyo (Puerto Rico), along with Coach Mike “K” Kryrzewski, Jerry Colangelo (USA Basketball Chiarman) and Charlie Denson (Nike Basketball President) officially announced the start of WBF. A dedication ceremony from the New York City Mayor’s Office, followed by a light skirmish round with youths from Chain Link Foundation, all involved parties had individual Q & A sessions with the gathered media. Though various questions were asked, one constant theme appeared in regard to the raise of other basketball powerhouses, such as Brazil and China, and the future of NBA. Coach K, as well as Colangelo and others replied eloquently that these additions will only make the sport of basketball even better and is the ideal image of how the future NBA would look like, a sport that knows no geological or political boundaries, just one’s skill sets and commitment.

In the meantime, you could enjoy the Live Webcast going on right now at, where special musical guest, Jay-Z, will be performing latter half of the evening.
