There are two ways for new ideas and products to be born– money, and need. It goes without saying, that most often the best products are those born out of need than a desire for lucrative business. Jean “John” Pigozzi’s LimoLand is the latter, born entirely out of need. Photographer/entrepreneur/philanthropist/art collector/globetrotter extraordinaire, Pigozzi, has scoured the world taking photographs and collecting art. He currently owns the largest collection of contemporary African art, and has recently started upon contemporary Japanese art. In terms of his own creations, Pigozzi’s work has been exhibited at some of the most notable places including the Gagosian Gallery in New York City and Musee de Art Moderne in Paris. Between his artistic ventures, Pigozzi also runs Liquid Jungle Lab, a research facility devoted to environmental preservation in Panama. Evidently, Pigozzi is a busy man who is literally, all over the world.
It is exactly out of his personal lifestyle that LimoLand was born. Founded in 2007, LimoLand is all about catering to Pigozzi’s casual and colorful aesthetics. These are clothing with a fun, vibrant twist for a man who enjoys quality and a good classic. Polo shirts are not boring in monochrome, and enjoys just the right splash of colors on the cuffs or stitching or placket lining; shell jackets are color blocked and packable, and v-neck sweaters are ultra soft in cashmere and merino blend, with contrasting color elbow patches.
For a while now, LimoLand has been available in some of the world’s most renowned retailers such as Dover Street Market and colette, and now, Pigozzi has brought LimoLand to New York City’s Meatpacking District, hanging out with neighbors such as Scoop, Alexander McQueen (who is just a few blocks down), Matthew Williamson, Earnest Sewn and Zadig et Voltaire. The store will officially open on August 26 and will be carrying a good line-up of LimoLand products including collaborations with K-Way, Penfield, and Yoshida Porter. Freshness dropped by the store today and checked out the funky decor alongside the goods. So take a sneak peek with us, and enjoy!
