New York City is overrun by the fashion world this week with two of fashion’s most important events happening– the second annual Fashion’s Night Out, and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City. Spring/Summer 2011 previews have officially kicked off this past Thursday, and designers ranging from the up-and-coming such as J. Sabatino and Christian Siriano, to the popular and controversial like Jeremy Scott, to the tried and true and beloved like Marc Jacobs and Calvin Klein, will be showcasing their upcoming season for New York Fashion Week. A new season and new collection of clothes to see aside, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City has also officially moved away from its Bryant Park home, into a new base in the ever-theatrical Lincoln Center on the Upper West Side. On the second day of fashion week, Fashion has its night out as stores all over the city and in the boroughs extend their opening hours for shoppers to get their retail fix into wee hours of the night. While the concept started out as a mere extension of store hours to stimulate the economy as well as bring people back into the swing of enjoying shopping, Fashion’s Night Out has grown into a full-fledged fashion circus as each retailer and store seems to compete for attention with celebrity appearances, and one cool gimmick after another. For instance, Opening Ceremony had partnered up with Ace Hotel to open up “A Parisian Flea Market” selling specially curated and collaborated products, and BBC/Ice Cream brought Pharrell back to perform. However, aside from the fashion fanfare in New York City, many things still happened this week, including the announcement of a collaborative boat between Gucci and Riva, and also the unveiling of a partnership between Nike and Undercover. Also, on the in-house side of things, Freshness had reviewed the new TouchSmart 600 and will be having a special surprise soon. Check out the week in review, rewind, and unwind for the last bits of this week.
