Before Nike was called “Nike”, there was Blue Ribbon Sports. Based on co-founder Phil Knight’s thesis during his MBA year at Standford Business School, the budding company sought out affordable production support outside of the U.S., what was at the time Japan. In celebration of that bond, Nike Sportswear inaugurated the Athletics Far East, or AFE, a collection which honors designs to came out of Japan at the time and the historical importance of that relationship. By taking archival designs and models, designers at Nike reworked each to incorporate the latest in fabric technology and manufacturing methods, such as its own propitiatory Storm-Fit and seamless construct. An added “pop” to the simple black and white design are hints of monochromatic camouflage through out. So a thoroughly modern creation with its foundation set in the past, some 30 years ago. The Nike Sportswear Athletics Far East Storm-Fit 3L TR Jacket in Black is currently available at end clothing of England.
