KAWS made lots of noise through the internet with the preview of the 5 meter tall Companion outdoor sculpture. It is a monumental piece that is the center piece of the Passing Through exhibition held at Harbour City shopping complex in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. The larger than life sculpture is an artwork that has been created to share the concept of art with the general public. It certainly dominates the forecourt of Harbour City, making all that walks past it to turn and take a closer look.
At the official launch event, ever so reserved KAWS himself took to the mic to share few words and exchange gifts with Executive Director, Doreen Lee. After several photo sessions, KAWS welcomed fans by autographing items and taking more photos. Later in the evening, the exhibition space turned to a book signing venue thanks to Juice, as over hundred fans lined up outside of the compact harbor side gallery. Key industry heads and local celebrities were also present to witness the exhibition opening. The exhibition itself featured original ink and charcoal works completed especially for this exhibition along with figures made by KAWS over the years. Artworks were snatched up fast by keen fans and also on sale at the exhibition are specially designed mugs, sticker sets, t-shirts and early release of the KAWS book, which is scheduled to release in November.
