Much like how Harold was to the Lower East Side of New York City, the day attributed to him, the Harold Hunter Day, is becoming a staple to this community and beyond. And though his passing in 2006 left a wound that is yet to heal for many, its his affable personality, his skill on the board, and that signature mug people will remember him by. And so over the weekend, the Harold Hunter Foundation, in conjunction with Zoo York, CCS, DVS, Camp Woodward, Red Bull, as well as friends of Harold, hosted the Harold Hunter Day for the fourth year in the roll.
By far the largest Harold Hunter Day thus far, over 1,000 skaters and participants join in the day long festivities, from skate jam and trick contests, all to the live tune by DJ Smoke L.E.S. Plenty of giveaway followed, included a pair of gift certificates for a complimentary 1-week session at Camp Woodward during the next summer. At nightfall, the gathered crowd stopped by Panda NYC for a causal happy hour for all ages. On display was a video retrospective on Harold by RB Umali along with a photo montage by Paul Park and Akira Ruiz. The day also marked the launch of DVS x HHF Shoe Series, a limited edition collection with photos of Harold taken by Giovanni Reda imprinted. Now also available at select DVS retailers, where proceeds from their sales will go to Harold Hunter Foundation for it to further its cause. Much like the man himself, Harold Hunter Day was one to remember.
