Nike x UNDERCOVER Gyakusou International Running Collection Preview | Event Recap

Designer Jun Takahashi of UNDERCOVER

“Isn’t that Tom Sachs?”, whispered one of the attendees last evening at Nike Sportswear 21 Mercer Street Flagship. Indeed, it was as the contemporary artist and others made a quick visit to the Gyakusou International Running Collection Preview, a unique performance wear project between Nike and Jun Takahashi of UNDERCOVER. The one of only few places outside of Japan to sell the new collection, the invite-only exhibit was more than just a preview, where media and interested parties could see each items up close for themselves. The event was also a pre-release point of sale, a preemptive action taken by Nike after the entire run sold out the day of its launch in Japan a few weeks back. Thus a unique mixture of people who were either fans or friends of Jun Takahashi from artist Tom Sachs, Kostas Seremetis, Peter Sutherland to DJ Alex from Tokyo, Fraser Cooke of Nike and the 50+ strong ghoulish runners from the Nike Stadium x NYC Bridge Runners “Running Scared” Halloween Night Run Event, who made the event their destination. Unfortunately, for those interested in the collection but couldn’t attend last evening’s event, you will have to wait till middle of November when the collection launch officially.
