Some would say it was a home coming decades in the making. After stopping by U.S.’s West Coast in Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco, Dr. Martens finally found a home in the Big Apple. Situated on Spring Street of SoHo and not far from stores of some of its counterculture peers, the 900+ square-foot storefront offers the most complete Dr. Martens collection you will find anywhere along the East Coast. The store also offers a duo special collection, the original 1460 8-Eyelet Boot in Liberty Green (referring to the Statue of Liberty) and Candy Apple Red (as in Big Apple).
After few weeks of “soft opening” to test the retail waters, the store officially opened last evening in midst of New York style pretzels, candy apple, and New York State wines. Editors, media reps, and bloggers all swung by to see the new space along with the upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. In sync of its iconic stature, the store created giant display units in the likeness of a large canvas. In each are highlighted collections of Dr. Martens – floral and lace for women’s, 50-year anniversary special, to black and white editions and more. An elongated plush Ottoman means anyone could plop down anywhere to try own their new favorite pair. Of course, never far from its punk rock roots, large street shots of the forgotten 70s & 80s UK youth movement adorn the walls. So if wanting to see anything new or select from the most complete line, make a point to visit the Doc today on Spring Street.
