The Back to the Future Nike is here! (Disclaimer: Marty McFly did not wear this one. But it is Back to the Future, and it is Nike). Pop culture symbols, cars, and icons are traditional sources of design inspiration for sneakers, but this project brings together all three. The Delorean x Nike 6.0 Dunk, set for release this Friday, November 26th, takes design cues from the one and only DMC-12, AKA the time machine/car from the decade-defining 1980’s movie franchise. Staying true to the famous stainless-steel body of the Delorean, this dunk features a one-piece style upper, created from a textile material similar to the Foamposite-inspired Jordans we’ve been seeing this Fall. The details are authentic and nice: a “Belfast” tongue tag (homage to the original Delorean factory in Ireland). And the Gullwing doors? A modified eyestay features a bit of extra lift, mimicking the famous lifting motion of doors. Possibly the nicest Delorean echo is in the sole, which faithfully reproduces the orange-red-white tail of the car. Rounding out the experience is a matte silver Delorean-inspired box that opens with two lifting sides. Production numbers haven’t been confirmed yet; but this is nice dunk, and a huge gift from Nike to the 6.0 line.
