Hussein Chalayan for PUMA – Urban Glide | Winter 2010 Release

Here’s an addition to the high-top fashion sneaker with a celebrity designer category. For Winter 2010, PUMA retained the services of Turkish-born Hussein Chalayan to interpret the company’s Urban Glide high top. Chalayan created two colorways of the already sleek and modern sneaker, black/black or anthracite gray/black/white. Chalayan keeps things svelte, and his shoe is simplicity and understatement personified. Logos are tonal, and the only extraneous feature is a small heel tab, just enough to keep things athletic. The black/black version is tuxedo-ready, but both versions could be the foundation of a well turned out outfit. Both versions are crafted from premium Nubuck, with a leather lining, and a glossy midsole. Interesting aside: Hussein Chalayan got lots of fashion industry press when Top Shop announced it’s Kate Moss collection. Chalayan went on record criticizing the idea that celebrities can sell fashion based on their name recognition.
