It’s probably too early to say that Hussein Chalayan for Puma Winter 2010 is a signature look, but based on the Turkish-born designer’s interpretations of the Urban Motus, combined with http://freshnessmag.com/2010/11/24/hussein-chalayan-for-puma-urban-glide-winter-2010-release/”>his work on the Puma Urban Glide, it’s clear that the Puma – as done by Chalayan – definitely has a common thread. Just like the Glide, the Urban Motus gets downplayed and updated; still Puma, but with a distinctly new look. The Motus silhouette is a riff on of the ever popular sneaker/desert boot hybrid – which is quite workable – and Chalayan’s version of the hybrid comes in three colorways, variations on the theme of subtlety, in brown, black, or navy tonal color schemes. They feature a premium suede upper with waxed laces. All of Chalayan’s designs are a pretty major departure for Puma, whose “design” sneakers have tended to channel athletic looks, rather than minimalism. It’s a good bet that these are going to be just the thing for some Puma fans, and be an item for people who want to name drop “Hussein Chalayan” every time they get asked about their shoes.
