The only thing constant with Radiohead is its frontman Thom Yorke’s ability to wail in its songs. The Brit rock band’s chameleon-like promotions have forever changed on how music is distributed from artist to consumer. For its upcoming The King of Limbs album, new works since the 2007 In Rainbows, Radiohead will again challenge the status quo. Billed as the “newspaper album”, the complexity of the record’s packaging alone is something to be astonished about. To accompany the CD and two 10-inch vinyl are “many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degredeable plastic to hold it all together,” in addition to the “purpose-built record-sleeve.” With each purchase, fans get the option to download the record tomorrow, ahead of its official May 9th launch date. Of course, you can opt out the elaborate packaging altogether and just download the songs. But what fun will that be?
